CERAMICA: Ceramic materials have come a long way since their discovery last century and the development costs have fallen dramatically due to special low cost techniques. New production developments have allowed Ceramica to develop a process of injection molding of ceramic sleeves using zirconia powder together with an adhesive to produce a very strong, flexible and durable ceramic sleeve that replaces the common plastic sleeve and/or metal bearing. These new, cost effective ceramic bearings are claimed to be far superior to the conventional ball bearing and economical sleeve bearing types of fans, offering greater performance with less noise and a longer service life of an average of 300,000 Hours!.
DAICHI: Ball raced range of fans use the classic single steel ball bearing type system. These are developped for excellent noise quality and good reliability with a life span of over 50,000 hours. Sleeve bearing fans are low in cost, a little noisier per cfm, but are generally reliable with a life span of over 30,000 Hours.
DC type cooling fans are essential for many different types of cooling applications, but they do have a relatively short life expectancy when used on products that are designed to operate continuously in hot or hostile environments. One of their major limitations comes from the bearing system within the fan mechanism. Generally, there are two options of bearings to consider. Either sleeve type bearings, with an average life expectancy of 30,000 Hr or a double ball bearing type with an average life expectancy of 50,000 Hr In both cases these figures will drop if the fan is exposed to high ambient temperatures, corrosive or hostile environments. Noise levels on these metal type bearing fans can also be a downfall, as it will increase in loudness as operational time gets longer. Ceramica fans offer a solution to these issues with their new range of Ceramic Bearing Fans.
- Ceramic bearings run more smoothly, are quieter than their metal ball raced equivalents and their life expectancy is increased by a factor of six!
- While the average life span of a ball bearing fan is 50,000 Hr a ceramic equivalent model has a 300,000 Hr life expectancy.
- Zirconia (or ceramic steel) offers the traditional ceramic benefits of hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, without the typical characteristic ceramic property of absolute brittleness.
- An ideal solution has been formulated with a product using Zirconia powder that can be injection molded for an economical manufacturing process.
